A future project

in an earlier post I mentioned how much I love and admire the work of the Impressionist. Renoir , Degas  , Morisot , Picasso , Manet , Seurat , Van Gogh and the artist that really rocks my world , Claude Monet.

one of the projects planned for the future , if , I can never find the time is a series of photos that immulate the work of the impressionist .

maybe the first one below will be one of them .

Lightwritings and shadow boxing

2014 is turning out to be a very busy and important year for me. There are so many things going on all at the same time that it amazes me I'm able to get anything done.

one of those is my new website, which isn't finished but I have decided to upload today .hopefully it will motivate me to finish the rest before to long. I haven't worked on web pages in so long it was like learning all over again with all the web changes. It got to be such a struggle at one point that I was thinking of naming it , " Lightwritings and shadow boxing".

I now need to write the text pages and come to a decision whether Im going to add galleries or a slideshow. One real problem is that while sorting photos for this project I keep coming across some from the past that I can't help but start working on. here is one from October 2007 . I think.

below that is a link to my new site. hopefully it will be completed before to long.

overwhelmed

Im usually spending this time of year hibernating away until April or May. there are so many  projects going on at once that there just isn't time to be sitting around on my Levi's waiting until the spring. I already finished sorting all my RAW and PSD files and I'm now working on " keywording " them all and sorting them in selections by projects.

there is also my website that I'm working on but that is on the back burner while finishing the above project. my artist statements , organizing my future projects, updating and rewriting my notebooks. planing vacations, scouting photo shoots and having my equipment cleaned , repaired and readied for next month.

all this is part of my hobby , I can only wonder how hard I would have to work if photography was my career path. I'd probably starve.

Soap and Windows

A couple of weeks ago I arrived at the Vineyards at 6:40 am . I had appointments early afternoon , after which I had to check into my hotel and get cleaned up for dinner with friends. driving around killing time I found a store that had it's windows all soaped up.  they looked so interesting ,so I parked my car in a 15 minute parking spot , just across from the police station .It didn't matter to me that it was pouring , I just wanted to get photos of the windows.

After about an hour I noticed that people were stopping their cars to see what I was doing . No one got out or said anything , they just stopped and watched. . I guess they figured anyone stupid enough to stand in the rain photographing windows wasn't all there in the first place.

Maybe that's why the police didn't give me a ticket ;o)

Menemsha

spent last week at the vineyards , arriving on Tuesday , three days ahead of our 3 day Alison Shaw's mentorship group on Friday. here are some of the photos from Menemsha harbor. I didn't realize how busy we would all be for the weekend retreat  , the mentorship is turning out to be a lot more involved and for the better. It couldn't of happened at a better time for me.

with work , relationships and all else that overfills my life there never seems to be enough time to shoot. the mentorship has forced me to get off my levi's . so during the time of year when I'm usually hibernating I'm working , even if it's mostly indoors. come the next retreat I'll arrive even earlier to shoot all the places on the island I scouted last week.

more photos to follow in the next few days.

Macro Photography

with winter here and the weather the coldest I can remember since 2002 it is time to photograph indoors . after the last couple of weeks working with macro lenses and a few close up arrangements of my own I have come away with a new found respect for people that photograph the miniature world.

It's time consuming , difficult and backbreaking work.

even after thousands of shots I'm still far from where I want to be but realize the hard work and effort will help develop my overall technical skills.
