Nikon killing local camera repair service and maybe their loyal followers

I have been a user of Nikon cameras and lenses for a long time . They have served me well and except for a few things that pains me , such as cheap cases , cheap neck straps and no image software support for the cameras but most of all I've been pretty happy with my system.

Until today . I dropped off a couple of lenses to be repaired by the same service I have used for years . One lens , the 17-35 mm needs a couple of parts that would normally cost about 5 dollars each. The job would be done in a week at a cost of 185.00 dollars.

There is just one problem .Nikon will not sell these parts to independent service centers any more. Worst yet after checking with Nikon they won't sell the parts I need even to a certified Nikon repair center. I have to ship the lenses to Nikon for repair and then wait for who knows how long to get everything back .Not to mention the high cost.

Nikon has turned into one the worst user friendly companies I have ever done business with. I was thinking about upgrading my D300 and D700 cameras , instead I'm thinking of just switching to Canon.

Way to go Nikon.
