Babes in the Woods

I got to the trailhead at about 7am this morning , cool and a light breeze I was ready for the steep up hill climb to Rainbow falls. the wonderful , beautiful ladies jogging , jiggling and hiking along the trail this morning made the trip that much more enjoyable . God I love New York   ;o)  I came away with a full day of exercise  , took a couple of hundred photos ( I did delete every photo but the one below ) and have a lunch engagement for Friday afternoon. What more could any man ask for from a hike?

I'm going to miss New York when I retire.

In sight of the resent bear attacks around the globe , a couple of my friends , knowing that I love to wade and hike the mountain streams looking for photos have ask on a few occasions if I worry about bear attacks. I give them my standard answer , I don't think about it ! but truth be known , if I have to go down , better it be against a bear then some drug crazed kid that would shoot me down in the streets. this what was on my mind when I came across this pasifier out in the middle of nowhere. you just never know what you will come across !

Cameras are really kool toys !

I have more fun trying to figure out how to do anything and everything that cameras were never intended for. I do know they don't make very good beer mugs, even if you frost them first.

give a kid a camera and he or she will be busy all day long.

One of the things I really like to do is take my 70-200mm lens , throw it out of focus and start searching . this lights up the last few brain cells I have rattling around in my head like free electrons , bing  bing  bing...

It's sort of like tripping back to the 60's .

My little slice of Heaven

Whether it's 50 below zero or 120 degrees ( extremes we seemed to have reached the last few months ) , we all need a place we can relax , repair and rejuvenate . this is the space of my total release , I allow nothing but meditation and creative endeavors to flourish here.

A few of my friends have turned this into their little slice of Heaven also . O well , as long as it's creative vibs , peace and harmony , I'm willing to share ;o) .

Photographer : Robin Perry

if I was given the opportunity to attend a photo workshop with any photographer in the history of the art it would be Robin Perry. I heard about him years and years ago from a photo book I was reading , so long ago I can’t even remember who’s book it was . because of whomever it was I brought Mr. Perry’s book , “Creative Professional Photography “ It was one of the first photography books I ever owned. His honest, straight forward, no nonsense, in your face, shotgun to the head style of teaching really appealed to me. I believe we would have got along famously.

after reading hundreds of photo books I don’t think there is much that would be new to me and I’m more likely to buy a book now to have it autographed by the artist then to read the material within. and yes I’m an autograph hound. baseballs, basketballs, bats, boxing gloves, bubble gum cards, footballs and photography books. Cooperstown’s baseball HOF will think they hit the Mother Lode when I die.

Back on Point: even with his direct approach to teaching and telling it like it is one will soon realize that he also had a heart of gold, atuned to everyone and everything around him. the chapter, “The Quality of Being Principled “is the most important work on photography I have ever read. this chapter should be mandatory reading for every student of the arts, regardless of one’s choosen discipline.

I have come to the point where photography books are more about studying the photos then reading the text. and if I’m lucky , getting the author's autograph.every year or so I come back and read this one chapter to feel like home.

The constant struggle for time.

When it comes to photography,  its a constant struggle to find time for practice. with work , prior commitments , relationships and everything else under the sun I sometime's wonder if I may of been better off with the knitting lessons instead. It seems like I'm forever starting over every time I go out again.

A better place to be

I get to Philadelphia once every year or so and one of the places I love to check out is Eastern State Penitentiary. It is now a popular place for photo workshops. Just don't go in the heat of summer. I once went here in August . BIG MISTAKE !!!

across the street on the corner is a great coffee shop .

I think if I was stuck in this shit hole for a couple of days as a kid , many of my mom's problems would of been solved , God bless her soul.

Lubec , ME

Sitting here , the last night before I'm back to work and back to the gym , listening to the birds singing in the backyard I can't help but realize that this is the first time in the last 2 and 1/2 weeks I just sat back and let everything pass and relaxed. It was one of the strangest and stressful vacations I've spent.

early on in the vacation I spent a day and night in our most eastern town , Lubec , ME. this is a nice little harbor town that was the highlight of my vacation. a warm and friendly town , where I was welcomed right from the start. I will remember the people and the place , their generosity and kindness , hoping that maybe someday I will return . if not, they will not be forgotten . God bless.
